THEFT OF SCRAP LEAD

A sentence of a month's imprisonment with hard labour was imposed upon Charles Crawford, metal worker, aged 62, who appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, charged with the theft of 231b of scrap lead from the firm by which he was employed. The telegram published yesterday reporting a statement made in Christchurch by Mr. Semple, Minister of National Service, regarding the distribution of circulars containing "treasonable" statements to married men recently called up for service contained an obvious error. The Minister was made to say that the cost of distributing the circulars would be not less than £6000. The amount stated by him was £600.
