WELLINGTON EVENTS
In reporting upon the ' Wellington cricket team's visit to Auckland, Mr. J. D. Howitt (who was manager of the team) paid tribute at last night's meeting of the Wellington Cricket ■ Assoj ciation's management committee to the [fine all-round performance put up by the Auckland team and to the hospitable manner in which the visitors had been treated during their stay in Auckland. The possibility of continuing with the Auckland-Wellington veterans' match this season had been discussed, and it was agreed that this _be investigated. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. W. A. Baker, J. E. Banks, and J. A. Carrad was set up last night to go into the question of sending a veterans' team to Auckland. Senior fixtures for the next two Saturdays were made as follows:— February 21.—First division: Hutt v. Army, Hutt; Kilbirnie v. Old Boys, Kilbirnie; Karori v. Petone. Karori. Second division: Wellington .v. Midland, Kelburn No. 1; St. Patrick's 0.8. v. Johnsonville, Kelburn No. 2; University v. Institute, Kilbirnie No. 6. February 28.—First division: Army v. Kilbirnie, Basin Reserve No. 2; Petone v. Old Boys, Basin Reserve No. 1; Karori v. Hutt, Hutt. Second division: Johnsonville v. Wellington. Kilbirnie; Midland v. Institute. Kelburn No. 1; St. Patrick's 0.8. v, University, Kelburn No. 2. FURLONG CUP The annual match for the Furlong Cup, between teams representing the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League's management committee and the League's Umpires' Association, was played at Maidstone Park, and was won by the umpires by 121 runs. A century by Morris for the winners was an outstanding feature of trie match. The scores were: Umpires 252 (Morris. 114 retired. Keast 32. Clark 29, Williams 25: Morrison four'for 36. Pointon two for 10. Casey two for 52). Committee 131 (Matson 35, Pointon 29. Casey 20; Williams four for 44, Clark two for •13. Keast two for 26. Morris two for 5. Wilson one for 0), In presenting the cup, the president (Mr. E. Casey) congratulated the winners upon their success and expressed the hope that the fixture would continue for all time, j Mr. J. C.
