The president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, Mr. H. T. Falla, of Christchurch, and the vice-president, the Rev. F, A. Parry, of Gisborne, are in Wellington attending meetings of the executive of the Baptist Foreign Missionary Society. / Mr- L. S. Dawson, of the Inspection of Machinery Department, who has been transferred to Auckland, where he has been appointed to the position of Senior Inspector of Machinery and Engineer Surveyor of Ships, was the recipient of a farewell gift recently from the employees of the Wellington Patent Slip Company. The gift comprised a handsome travelling bag and shaver's companion set. The presentation was made by Mr. James, leading hand, who referred to the good will that had existed between Mr. Dawson in his official capacity and the employees of the company. He wished Mr. Dawson all good fortune in his new sphere of activities. The Rev. JohnI'Gilkison, formerly of Dunedin and Lower Hutt, died of blackwater fever at his mission station on Mailu Island, PapUa, recently. Mr. Gilkison, who was' only 28 years of age, was born at Ravensbourne, where he spent his bo-yhood days. His mother is Mrs. C. Duncan, of Alexandra. After attending the Boys' High School, he spent three years at Trinity Theological College, Auckland, subsequently being minister at the Lower Hutt Congregational Church for a period of two years and a half. In August, 1938, he sailed for the mission field under the auspices of the London Missionary Society. Mr. Gilkison is survived by his wife and a small daughter of ,18 months. Mrs. Gilkison, formerly Miss Ngaire Mill, had, before her marriage, worked as a missionary in Samoa. She and her daughter were evacuated from Papua recently, and they are now in New "Zealand.
