RAID BY AUSTRALIAN
PLANES
(Rec. 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 29. The R.A.A.F. scored hits on Japanese ships at Rabaul last night in the third raid since the Japanese occupied the town. The Air Minister, Mr. A. S. Drakeford, said today that the raid was carried out at a considerable altitude. Although visibility was bad a number of ships were seen in the harbour.
A direct hit was obtained on one ship and a near miss, possibly a hit, on another.
All the aircraft returned safely.
