FINNISH PEACE MOVES
REVIVAL OF RUMOURS
LONDON, January 8.
Rumours of Finnish peace moves have been revived, and informed quarters in London go so far as to say that Sweden has already been mentioned as a possible mediator. A broadcast stressing Finland's desire for peace has been made by Helsinki Radio. It said that the sufferings caused to the Finns must be borne in mind when considering Finland's capacity to engage in a long war. NEW YORK, January 8. The Berne correspondent of the* "New York Times" has learned from Helsinki, though without confirmation, that the prominent Parliamentarian and former Prime Minister, Dr. Paasi-
kivi, has left for a certain point on the Russo-Finnish front with a view to proceeding to Moscow for preliminary peace talks. Before his departure the Finnish Parliament held a long secret session.
A Helsinki message says that the official spokesman there denied that Finland was ready to withdraw from the war, but when questioned as to whether it was true that Finland had already reached her strategic goal he merely replied, "It is impossible at present to comment."
