SABOTAGE STOPPED
WORK OF AMERICAN
G-MEN
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, January 8.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has virtually stopped anti-American sabotage and espionage, said Mr. Edgar J. Hoover, head of the bureau. Some Axis agents were still at large, but unaware that they were under the closest surveillance, as the ■F. 8.1, considers that protracted observation is more advantageous than premature arrests. The F.BJ. has trained and mobilised 150,000 policemen for special service, and also has catalogued anti-American persons for years. This facilitated the recent swift seizure of 3000 dangerous Japanese, Germans, and Italians, thus rendering sabotage and "fifth column" activities in the United States negligible. A Salt Lake City message says that the former Olympic ski ; champion, Frederick Pfeifer f and two other international skiers, .Hans Hauser and Joseph Froelich, all Austrians, have been arrested as enemy aliens. Pfeifer heads the Sun Valley Ski School, and the others are married to socially prominent Americans.
