FIGHTING AT BARABANOVO

LONDON, Dec. 2.

A Russian success in the region of Stalinogorsk. where the Germans have been thrown back between 12 and 20 miles from the village of Barabanovo, is reported by "Isvestia." The Russians attacked in heavy snow, the German infantry retreating before smashing tank attacks. At night fall the Germans unsuccessfully attempted to recapture the village. The Russians, near Barabanovo, smashed up . a company of the 70th motorisedi division, which is now in a precarious position. "Pravda" reports that the Russians yesterday repulsed German attacks inj the Klin and Volokolamsk sectors in: which a total force of three divisions' was used in two separate offensives in an effort to surround the Russians. The Germans suffered heavy losses of; men and materials, the fighting last-, ing all day. VOLOKOLAMSK FIGHTING. The Germans in the Volokolamsk^ , region, despite the slaughter of their' troops, managed to occupy a village,! but their further advance was halted.' Elsewhere the German infantry has. built about 100 anti-tank-gun and'i machine-gun pits, and also entrenched* many tanks which have run out otfi fuel.
