N.Z.'S PART IN LIBYAN
CAMPAIGN
In addition to the part they have played to date on land and in the air in the Libyan campaign, New Zealanders have also helped in the attack from the sea. The Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) stated last night that advice had been received that New Zealanders were members of the ship's company of a cruiser which was engaged in the recent bombardment of the Libyan coast. The Minister said that it would be of special interest to New Zealanders to know that the cruiser had taken part in all three v. bombardments of enemy positions at Bardia, which were carried out as a preliminary to the successful attack by New Zealand troops on November 22, 1941, and resulted in the capture of the port. During the last stages the cruiser successfully attacked a concentration of German tanks north-west of the fortress.
