EFFECT ON GERMANY
THE BRITISH BLOCKADE
CLEAR EVIDENCE SEEN
SHORTAGE OF WOOL
LONDON, November 19
There is definite evidence ( of the British blockade^ now having an effect on the German armed forces as well as on the civilian population. This was announced today by an official of the Ministry of Economic Warfare, who said it was the result of two years' steady and relentless pressure against a country which, according to Dr. Goebbels, had been' preparing for eight years to meet the blockade.
An official in Moscow stated that German soldiers in Norway and Rumania are now being asked to give up treasured blankets for their comrades on the Eastern Front. He pointed out that the fact that the German troops in Russia had been wearing women's fur coats was not an indication that Germany was short of fur, but it showed that she was short oi wool—so short, indeed, that some German sailors were wearing underclothes of artificial silk, paper, and ■fur. Another sign of the growing effectiveness of the British blockade was the fact that clothes rations in Germany were cut by 40 per cent, last month.
