REPORTED DISMISSED
GENERAL WEYGAND
DONE TO PLEASE HITLER
(Rec. 1.15 p.m.)
NEW YORK, Noy. 19
Quoting private sources, the United Press says that the Vichy Government on Tuesday dismissed General Weygand from his present post as Com-mandei*-in-Chief of the French forces overseas in order to please Herr Hitler.
It is stated- that General Weygand will not be replaced, due to the special nature of his African job.
General Weygand arrived at Vichy earlier this week and it was suggested that his visit was concerned with German pressure on Vichy for his appointment as Minister of War, in succession to General Huntziger.
The Germans felt that in his present post General Weygand was too independent, and that at Vichy he would be more, under the control of Admiral Darlan.
