Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, left Wellington last evening for New Plymouth. Later he will go to Auckland to meet Mr. A. Duff Cooper.

The death of Mr. A. J. McCurdy was referred to at this morning's meeting of the Free Ambulance Board by the chairman, Sir Charles Norwood. Mr. McCurdy had been -a member of the board for a number of years, and the loss of his services was keenly felt, said Sir Charles.

The Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. E. H. Andrews, is visiting Wellington in connection with patriotic work arid also to attend a meeting of the.Town Planning Institute of New Zealand.

Mr. B. F. Waters, assistant director of the Social Security Department, is visiting Auckland. :

The Rev. Melville Harcourt, of Birkenhead, who arrived in Wellington yesterday, will leave on his return to Auckland- this evening.

Mr. E. Iveagh Lord, a member of the advertising staff of the "Press" for the last twelve years, died in a private hospital yesterday morning alter a brief illness. He was a member of a pioneer West Coast family, and spent his early life in that province. In his younger days he was a very wellknown athlete. He took a very keen interest in the history of the West Coast and was the author of "Old Westland/' a Centennial publication dealing- with the earliest days of the prp r vince. He.was a son of Mr, E. Iveagh Lord, grandson of a former GovernorGeneral of Tasmania. Mr. Lord was born and educated on the West Coast and worked at his profession as a surveyor for local bodies there and also for the Public Works Department, for which he was employed on.the survey of the OUra tunnel railway.

Mr. A. Andrews, manager of the Union Steam Ship Company at Apia, has arrived at Auckland on furlough.

Mr. E. J. Sutch, former assistant secretary to the Samoan Administration, has arrived at Auckland on transfer to New Zealand. He is accompanied by Mrs. Sutch.

Mr. R. McPherson, Wheat and Flour Controller, arrived in Wellington from Christchurch today en route for Auckland.

Mr. G. Leahy has been elected chah'man of the North Canterbury Stock Auctioneers' Association.
