NEW PROCESS IN U.S.
"FURS" FROM SHEEPSKINS
(Rec. 1 p.m.) BOSTON, October 31
Jose Calva, a Minneapolis chemist, has invented a process whereby sheep pelts are said to be rendered waterproof and curl-proof, processing them into simulated furs, of almost any type, of which "beaver," made from merino, is the most fancied.
Apart from the conversion- of the sheepskins, the Calva process has improved the opossum skin so successfully that it is believed large numbers could be utilised in making magnificent coats.
"Collier's Magazine," discussing the new process, says it produces lustrous fur, making beautiful coats within almost any range from 75 to 500 dollars.
A proposal to commemorate .the late Mr. Paul Hoskins, one of New Zealand's leading Catholic laymen, by the erection of a boys' hostel in Wellington; has been approved of by his Grace Archbishop O'Shea, and a meeting to consider the nrnnnsal will be held this month.
