ARSENAL OF EMPIRE
RISE OF AUSTRALIA
DECISIVE FACTOR IN WAR
LONDON, October 31
The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. J. Curtin, spoke to Britain in a broadcast today, and said that the democracies in the. Pacific had co-operated to such a substantial degree as to represent a very material advance in the Allied cause.
Mr. Curtin said that as soon as it had taken office the Labour Government had occupied itself primarily with the position in the Far East, and he declared: "We have taken such steps as will ensure that Australia will be no mere pawn in Pacific affairs. We are in the fight with all we have, and what we have is growing every day and every hour. As an Empire arsenal Australia will be a decisive factor in the war."
