INSPECTION BY HIS
EXCELLENCY
AN INFORMAL VISIT
The many, activities, of the V.M.C.A. were inspected in an informal manner by his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, last night. He. spent about an hour, and a half on the premises in Willis Street, saw the whole scope of the association's activities, and talked to many of the boys. . His Excellency was welcomed by the. president, Mr. R. H. Nimmo, who introduced the directors to him. Under the,guidance of Mr. J..H. Dick, chairman of the physical committee, his Excellency - visited the gymnasium, where final championship events were in progress, and his Excellency, presented the following trophies to the winners:—lndoor athletics championship, for 1941: Blake Remmers, 214 points; runner-up, Harry Avery, 199 points. V.M.C.A. boys' department gymnastic championship for 1941: B. Gifford-Moore, 1; J. Allison, 2; G. Milne, 3.;
Many of the hundred cadets who reside on the... premises: were seen by his Excellency, who also visited the monthly meeting of the V.M.C.A. girls'; auxiliary, which helps to look ai*ter the 200 soldiers accommodated at the hostel each weekend. His Excellency discussed the work, of the auxiliary, with the president, Miss Burnley, and the secretary, Miss Jameson, "and other officials. . .. ; ■.
Other departments visited by his Excellency were the billiard room, the boys' department, . bedrooms, and dining-room.
The visit was concluded with supper in the main lounge, where his Excellency met the , ladies' auxiliary under Mrs. H. W. Kersley. .
