.. - ■ — «. , ; ■ WELLINGTON BOXING FINAL NIGHT OF TOURNEY The Wellington amateur boxing championships were completed at the Town Hall last night before a good attendance. Although the standard was naturally not as high as usual, some clever bouts; were seen, and the finalists were generally- well matched. The officials were the same as on the first night. Results are:— ' Junior. Paperweight.—Final: B. Goslin (Hedberg's), 6st 51b, beat L. Murphy; (Railway), 6st 4&lb, on points. Bantamweight.—Final: A. T. Gardiner (Air Force), Bst l%lb, beat E. Hanson (Galley's), Bst 61b, on points. Featherweight.—Final: A. Gill (Hedberg's), Sst 121b, beat D. Lena (Xewtown), 9st, by a technical knock-out in the third round. Both fought very willingly, but Gill consistently beat Lena to the punch by a shade. Lightweight.—Semi-final: .1. McKenna (Railway), 9st 71b, beat J. Burt (Army), 9st 71b, an points. Burt was badly beaten but, with ivpnderful sameness, kept going to the finish. Final. McKenna beat F. Walsh (Hedberg's, 9st r%lb, on points. • Welterweight.—Semi-final: G. Rodley (Railway). lOst 3%^, beat K. L. Cox (Stop Out), lOst 4%1b, on points. Final: .1. Miller (Air Force, Blenheim), lOst 71b, 'beat Rodley on points. The second fight was a bit 100 much 'or Rodley. Middleweight.—Final: T. A. Downes (Manaivntu). list, beat C. McKenzie (Railway), list 51b, on points. McKenzie fought aggressively, nit Downes was cleverer. Light-hea.vyweight.—Final: M. Turner (Railway), list 91b, beat Sergeant A. Walker (Trentham). I2st. on points. SENIOR. Paperweight.—Final: B. Johansen (Galley's), >st 10%lb, beat B. Harris (N'ewtown), 6st 111b, >n points. Johansen fought cleverly against t southpaw who was bigger than himself. Flyweight.—Final: H. Allott (Air Force), Sst,. beat F. Brown (Hedberg's), 7st 101b, on >oints. It was a clever fight in which both node good use of their rights. AllottVs exnerlmce and speed stood ■ him in good stead. Bantamweight.—Final: L. Philp (Railway). ist 41b. beat R. Hawes (Blenheim), Bst 61b, >n points. It was a fast and furious bout. Lightweight.—Final: J. Colvin (Hedberg's), Ist BV2lb. beat H. Carbin (Galley's), 9st 81b, in points, mainly by using his left to good iffect. Welterweight.—Final: B. Murphy (Railway), Ost 41b, beat C. Elsmore- (Air Force, Blenleim), lOst 71b, on points. Murphy was too ast and clever for his opponent. Middleweight.—Final: F. Southee (Railray), list 2Vilb, beat F. Moyes (Newtown), Ist l%lb, by a technical knock-out In the Irst round. Light-heavyweight.—A. C. McDonald (Air force), who won the heavyweight title on Vednesday night, took this division by default rom F. Moyes (Xewtown). SPECIAL TROPHIES AWARDED. The Jamleson Cup for the most scientific oxer in the senior division was awarded to i. Murphy (Railway), the welterweight chamlon, and the Kean Cup for science among the uniors. went to A. Gill (Hedberg's), who won tie bantamweight title. The Kean Medal, for he most promising junior, was given to B. Josltn (Hedberg's), winner of the paperweight ivi3ion. v' . . ■ - ;
