SHOVE FOR CORBETT

SPECTATOR'S ACTION

BLOMFIELP HELD TO DRAW

The unusual spectacle of a roan jumping from a ringside "seat, clambering through the ropes, and rushing across the ring to give Joe Corbett a shove while he was attacking Lofty Blomiield with a barred toe hold was seen in the wrestling contest at the Wellington Town Hall last night. After his guerrilla, action the spectator lost no time in gutting back to his seat before the referee (Mr. Alf. Jenkins) or, perhaps, one of the contestants, could catch him. Corbett had no chance to single out his new opponent but the referee went over and, after delivering a reprimand, pointed to the door. Whether the interlude prevented Corbett scoring a fall it is hard to say but the fact remains that the American had more than one near-miss, before . he finally squared the account in the last round, Blomfield having scored first in the- fifth round with a submission fall from a barred toe hold. Twice Corbett seemed to be robbed of a certain fall, by the sounding of the gong at the end of different rounds. His success in the finish came after Blomfield had tossed him out of the ring. He shot back through the ropes, butted the New Zealander in the.midriff, and went on to use more tackles until he could take a fall. The return of Blomfield, who received a great hearing, drew the biggest, house of the season and the crowd derived considerable enjoyment from the bout. , THE PRELIMINARIES.
