. Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., who has been transferred to Auckland as senior Magistrate, was accorded a farewell function by members of the Wellington District Law Society this week. Appreciation was expressed of: the manner in which Mr. Luxf ord had carried out his duties in -Wellington, and congratulations were extended to him on his promotion. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, is at present in Auckland. Mr. J. N. RishwOrth, of Auckland, attended a meeting of the New Zealand Dental Council in Wellington yesterday. The Rev. T. M. C. Hpy has been appointed by the Presbytery of Dunedin to be a chaplain at the Taieri aerodrome. ' ■■:' Mr. J. S. C. Thomas, accountant at; the Union Bank- of Australia in Blenheim for the last 15 years, has been j promoted to manager in Greymouth and has taken up his new post. j Commissioner J. Evan Smith, of the Salvation Army, left on a visit to the West Coast today, accompanied by Mrs. Smith. He will conduct special meetings in Greymouth tomorrow, Westport on Monday, and Nelson on Tuesday, and will return to Wellington on Wednesday. Captain B. Harewood, who will also accompany Commissioner Smith on the tour, left for Nelson yesterday. Major Kennedy Elliott, N.Z.M.C.has been appointed orthopaedic surgeon to the No. 1 New Zealand General Hospital in the Middle East. Major Elliott has been D.A.D.M.S. to the New Zealand Division and came through both the Greece and Crete campaigns. Messrs C. L. Carr, J. A. Roy, C. M. Williams. T. H. McCombs, E. T. Tirikatene, and S. G. Holland, members of Parliament, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington last evening. Mr. George Stening, of Christchurch, has been appointed an honorary life governor of the British and Foreign Bible Society.by its London committee as a mark of recognition of the zeal and ability he has shown in the affairs of the society. " . Mr. J. Roberts (president of the Dominion Watersiders' Federation) with his secretary, Mr. J. Flood, returned to Christchurch from Wellington last ! evening. *, Mr. W. W. Mulholland, president of 'the New Zealand farmers' Union, has returned to Christchurch.
