MOVE TO END FIGHTING

NO REAL INTEREST IN WAR

CAUSE

WARSAW EPIDEMIC

(By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright.)

LONDON, October 10.

Neutral business men arriving from Rumania say there are unmistakable signs of a movement for stopping hostilities against Russia. The Rumanians are bitter . against the quislings who have caused the annihilation of the cream of Rumanian youth for a cause in which they are not interested. The ■ travellers express the opinion that "the Rumanians' huge casualties will accelerate an antiwar outburst. Reporting that an epidemic of infantile paralysis has occurred in War- j saw, the Italian news agency admits | that it is due to under-nourishment. It adds that the Germans are now distributing vitamins to children under two years of age because they fear that the epidemic might spread to the occupation troops. Travellers arriving at Istanbul declare that Hungarian peasants - are hiding food for fear of a famine as a result of confiscations by the Germans. In a recent drive against hoarders 900,000 eggs were found hidden in rural districts. • THE CROSS OF LORRAINE. Thousands of people throughout Britain who are associated with the Free French movement are wearing in their lapels a small Croix de Lorraine in red, white, and blue, with the words "France Libre" (Free France). Behind each cross is stamped a number, which corresponds to a number on a similar cross in the possession of a French man or woman in occupied France. They are unable to wear the crosses openly, but they keep them for the day when they can rejoin the British against Hitler. The crosses are made in England. It is a Free French secret how each number reaches its opposite. The crosswearers keep in contact by wireless, and frequent talks are broadcast in dialect to each Department of France.
