NEW YORK, October 9.
President Roosevelt, in an article in "Collier's" magazine, disclosed that during the first five months of 1941 the United States sent more than 12 times as many aeroplanes to Britain as in the same period of 1940 and more than 10 times the number of aircraft engines.
During the first four months of 1941 17 times more explosives and 90 times more ammunition and firearms had been sent to Britain than in the same period in 1940.
Observing that operations under the Lend and Lease Act had only just begun, Mr. Roosevelt asserted: "When they are in full swing and the defence industries of America are functioning at full capacity, America will really be performing the function Congress and the people have outlined for it of becoming the arsenal of democracy."
