FAILURE TO ENROL
RESERVIST FINED £10
Remarking that it was not the usual case of its kind, Mr. J, L. Stout, S,M.. in the Magistrate's Court today imposed a fine of £10 upon Norman Edwin Page, who pleaded .guilty to failing to enrol as a reservist. The explanation made on his behalf by Mr'W. G. L. Mellish was that he had volunteered just before the closing of-the. voluntary enlistment system, and he was under the impression that by doing that he had fulfilled his obligations.
A similar qharge was made against Roy Vincent, who, through Mr. R. I. M Sutherland, pleaded guilty. Counsel's explanation was thai Vincent knew he was medically unfit for service, either in New Zealand or overseas, and had not appreciated the necessity of enrolling. Counsel handed in a doctor's I certificate, and the Magistrate adjourned the case for a month to enable Vincent, who is now enrolled, to be medically examined.
