CHARGES BY LABOUR
CANBERRA INCIDENT

(Rec. 9.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, September 18. Sensational allegations relating to the use of Government funds for purposes not approved by Parliament were made by Mr. J. Curtin in the House of Representatives tonight. this was the sequel to Mr. Curtin's mystery question in *h« House. A special meeting of the Advisory War Council has been convened for tomorrow to enable the Prime Minister to place important information before Labour members. On the motion for adjournment late tonight allegations of corruption and of the payment of money to individuals without the sanction of Parliament were made L>y a Labour member, Mr. E. J. Ward, who demanded that the full facts should be placed before the House. Mr. Curtin had asked a question in the House of Representatives on the previous day which intrigued his fel-low-members and caused wide speculation on what lay behind the "mystery." The question, among other things, referred to a "grave matter in relation to the public administration." The reply given by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fadden, was that he had already. set the necessary machinery in motion.
