LADY GALWAY GUILD
EXHIBITION OPENED BY
MAYORESS
The Brooklyn branch of the Lady Galway Gjuild held an "At Home" and exhibition of its work at St. Matthew's Hall, yesterday. The hall, which was beautifully decorated with patriotic posters and spring flowers by Mrs. Magee and members, was filled to capacity. Mrs. D. C. Bates (president), Madame Finlayson (vice-president), and Mrs, Magee (hon. secretary) received the guests, among whom were Sir Harry Batterbee and Mrs. Christopher Batterbee, Mrs. Hislop, Mrs. St. Barbe Holland, Mrs. Sprott, Mrs. J. A. Haiian, Madame Pouquet, Mrs. Stewart, ; M.P., the Rev.. D. C. Bates, and many others. The Mayoress, after examining the garments, opened the exhibition and warmly congratulated the Brooklyn ■branch on the excellence in quality of "material, style, arid artistic design. Mrs. Bates welcomed the large audience and told them that the hundreds of beautiful garments for children and the dozens of lovely cot quilts were the results of six months' work by ■the members, who also gave all the materials.
: Sir,. Harry Batterbee expressed his deep appreciation of the work of New Zealand women and said how much it ■was valued by mothers of Britain, and he, warmly congratulated the guild.
Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Leslie entertamejd with two violin and piano pieces, and Mrs. Chapman, accompanied by Mrs. Vickery, with songs.
The tea,committee, under Mesdames Fairhall, Wright, and Newton, provided excellent refreshments.
■The hon. treasurer, Mrs. S. Gilmer, reports takings at the door to be about £10, which is to be used for purchase of materials.
