Her Excellency^ Lady Newall was present at the annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the Dominion Federation of New Zealand Women's Institutes this morning.
The Bishop of Wellington^ the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, and Archdeacon Bullock returned to Wellington today from the south.
Major S. M. Satterthwaite, of Christchurch, formerly commandant of the Military School of Instruction, Burnham, has, according to advice received in Christchurch, been promoted to lieutenant-colonel (temporary) and appointed Assistant Adjutant-General on the headquarters staff, 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
Mr. C. S. Thompson was elected president of the Canterbury Cricket Association at the annual meeting of the association.
Mr. W. L. King, retiring president of the Canterbury Cricket Association, was elected a life member of the association at its annual meeting. Mr. C. S. Thompson, moving the election, said that cricketers owed Mr. King a debt of gratitude which could never be repaid.
Dr. Max Pirani, who visited New Zealand early this year as examiner for the Royal Colleger of Music, London, has accepted an appointment in Vancouver, Canada. Mrs. Piranii who was in New Zealand with her husband, was formerly Miss Leila Doubleday, a Melbourne violinist.
Mr. W. J. Winerield has been appointed to the Dunedin Advisory Committee of the South Islands Travel Association as the representative of the D,unedin Chamber of Commerce.
Sir Albert Ellis, New Zealand Phosphate Commissioner, and Mr. T. H Donaldson, Dominion manager for the British Phosphate Commissioners, who have been visiting Wellington, have returned to Auckland.
