STILL ACUTE
WHISKY SHORTAGE
EVEN LESS IN FUTURE
Many seasoned whisky drinkers will be disappointed to hear that the shipment of 450 cases, landed in Auckland recently, is probably intended solely for the Auckland district, where it will have little effect in relieving the fairly acute shortage. In Wellington, except in one or two hotels which were'fortunate enough to have large stocks, it is almost impossible to purchase a bottle of whisky.
Local inquiries made today showed that the stock position is very bad indeed, and, although shipments are coming through occasionally, only 40 per cent of the 1938 total can be consumed this year. Next year it is anticipated that shipments will amount to only 17£ per cent, of the 1938 quota.
