STREET IMPROVEMENT
UPPER HUTT PROPOSAL
At a special meeting last evening the Upper Hutt Borough Council confirmed a resolution to apply to the Government Loans Board for permission to take a poll of the Ratepayers to borrow £10,000 for the purpose of street improvements and sealing. Fotir ratepayers raised objections to the proposal. Among the objections raised were that during the war such a proposal was not opportune, that the price of materials was high, that the work should be done out of revenue, that after the war the work would assist employment, that the money should be used for war purposes, that the changes would be an added burden to the cost of living, and that labour was scarce.
