PARADE IN THE CITY
ROUSING WELCOME
MARCH TO TOWN HALL
A parade of a contingent of naval men who have recently been on active service in the Middle East was held in Wellington today. The people turned out in their hundreds to give the men a welcome.
Accompanied by bands,, the contingent marched through the principal streets to the Town Hall, and all along the route they were cheered on their way by the enthusiastic throngs lining the roadway. Confetti flew freely, and the shop fronts were colourfully bedecked with bunting. The men marched to the Town Hall, and were accorded an official reception.
Prior to the parade, his Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, briefly addressed the men, and expressed the Dominion's pride and gratitude to them for the service they had performed on behalf of their country.
