LONDON, Sept. 7. Bright moonlight and •- a clear sky enabled British bombers last night to seek out one of the Nazis' most carefully-hidden war factories in western Germany. It was an important plant at Huls. in the Rhineland, for the manufacture of synthetic rubber. Standing by itself, the factorywas hidden among woods, and had extensive railway sidings of its own. Navigators checked lakes, rivers, woods, and railways against maps to findf their way through the i maze to their target. . V I The pilot of a Whitley bomber circled | arid criss-crossed the whole neighbourhood for an hour and a half before the navigator was ! convinced that he had found the target. Once-the R.A.F. aircraft identified the factory it felt the weight of British bombs. - ; Some bombers went in at 1000 feet to drop their loads in■•'■the. middle of the. target. /. The. bombs caused multi-' coloured fires ; which turned to an angry, red glow; with, clouds of dense smoke. • Direct hits on several buildings were seen, and a number of bombs fell right among;: storage tanks. ■ '■;.''
