TRIPOLI RAIDED
HEAVY LOSSES BY AXIS
, LONDON, September 7. Objectives of British bombers of the Middle East Command included shipping in Tripoli harbour, and the quay and a merchant ship at anchor were repeatedly hit by heavy bombers.
The Axis is trying to,, maintain a ferry service between Sicily and North Africa, but British submarines and planes have taken a hand in/the matter, and in the last three days eleven Italian ships, have been sunk and damaged. Raids have also been made on ground objectives.
The Middle East communique makes reference to night fighters for the first time. When enemy planes attempted to raid the Suez Canal area last evening, night fighters shot down two machines and damaged others. One British plane is missing from all these operations. '
