It is learnt in London that the Russians are continuing the withdrawal to the Dnieper. It is believed that if Marshal Budenny retreats across the river he will find strong defences ready for him along the eastern bank. In this case, the river itself, half a mile wide and swiftly flowing, might prove a formidable barrier to further German advances. >
A Berlin military spokesman claimed that German troops had actually reached the Dnieper and were advancing towards Ekaterinoslav (Dnepropetrovsk), but there is no confirmation of this.
It is pointed out in Moscow that the Germans are only now coming up against the real defences in the Ukraine.
