COLLEGE MATCH
In ;i match which at. no time lacked action and was a great exhibition of Rugby in the mud St. Patrick's College (Wellington) won convincingly from St. Bede's College (Christchurch). At the outset it appeared that the extra weight of the visiting boys would be the determining factor. St. Bede's actually scored first and held on to the lead throughout the ilrst spell. Making up for lack of weight, at. Patrick's, with tigerish loose play, gradually got the better of the game, so much so that towards the end they had mostly their own way. It was only the fearless way in which St. Bede's wont down on the ball —and in this the full-back, Dickson, was outstanding— that stopped the local side's onslaughts from yielding more points. Pascoe, at first fiveeighths for the visitors, was outstanding, anil very little behind him in performance was tho St Fat's centre, Newton, who with power ami pace 'turned to account tlie only two real opportunities lie received. For St. Patrick s, Newton scored two tries, and O Bnen, Watt, and Avery one each, Mcßride converting one. Anderson scored a try for St. Bede's. Result: St. Patrick's College 17, St. Bede's College 3. The referee was Mr. W. A. Edwards.
