Dr. J. H. Blakelock, formerly of Shanghai, who has been appointed medical officer of health for Taranaki in succession to Colonel F. W. W. Dawson, will take up his appointment in Taranaki at the end of the month.

Captain R. M. Gladney, officer commanding thf defence forces of the Cook Islands, has arrived at Auckland from Rarotonga to undergo a refresher course. Mrs. Gladney and their two children, who accompanied him, will proceed to San Francisco.

Commander A. B. Fanshawe, A.D.C., R.N., second naval member of the New Zealand Naval Board, has returned to Wellington from Auckland.
