MARRIED MEN

ROYAL NAVY SERVICE As announced recently by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones), the scheme B recruiting for service in the Royal Navy has been extended to include married .men with not more than one child. Applications from those i eligible are now invited. Under this scheme; men between the ages of 20 and 30 having the University Entrance Examination or equivalent can apply for entry in the first instance as ordinai-y seamen (hostilities [only) for training in England, those suitable and recommended being considered for promotion to probationary temporary sub-lieutenants, R.N.V.R. Those not selected are required to i serve for the remainder, of the war as lower-deck ratings. The first selections of suitable candidates are to be made from the single men, followed by the married men without children, and finally, if there are sufficient vacancies left, from the married men with one child. Applications cannot be considered Mirom mar-' ried men with more than one child. An advertisement in this issue states that personal or written applications for forms and particulars should be made to the Naval Recruiting Officer H.M.S. Philomel, Auckland; 164 Featherston Street, Wellington, R.N V.R., St. Andrews Street, Dunedin: R.N.V.R., St. Asaph Street, Christchurch, and not to the Naval Secretary, Wellington.
