AMERICAN STYLE

HIGH POINTS FOR SPRING

THE "PLUNGE" NECKLINE

American designers have a sure knack of creating really becoming costumes. Perhaps their -work1 is more restrained than that of pie- j war Paris designers, but it is just as! colourful and certainly more \vear-| able by the vast majority of women. Fashions for this spring of ours which have an American flavour are) the pastel camel-hair coats and capes that are equally suitable for day or evening wear. Very U.S.A. are the blouses with open necklines and these have an influence on dresses too. The open neckline is definitely the one, and on some frocks the V is cut almost

to the waist. Notice the sports frock in today's sketch with its new "plunge" neckline. The shoulders of this dress j are interesting, since they are shaped with an exaggerated sloping line. WEATBER-WISE FROCKS. Weather-wise, frocks for spring are those made of beautiful rayon and silk j jersey .weaves. .-They .are.smooth*; and j classically , styled to "wear-every-where" lines of the. shirtwaist type.; New York stylists top'such frocks wtihj perfectly matched jackets of zephyr wool jersey. The jackets are like blouses in respect of draw-string waistlines and free-action sleeves. Lightweight spring felts, are in the soft pastel shades, a notable feature of the newest millinery being wide brims turning back broadly all • round the edge. Ifhis turn-back :js sometimes faced with gay fabric to concur with the print of a new dress. Dressy daytime frocks show the new dropped shoulder line and hemline ruffles. • . ■ . INSPIRED BY THE BALLET. The prettiest of the spring evening modes are those inspired by the ballet. These are in such sweet shades as footlight yellow, ingenue: pink, and ballet blue. The skirts of these romanticlooking gowns are always full and sometimes three-tiered. Ruffles $re much in evidence, as is also lace for trmming or four entire bodices. A pair of tinted' ballet slippers laced with satin strings give a final touch of artistry.
