BOMBS ON DAMASCUS
GERMAN ORIGIN PROVED
RUGBY, July 1
The German origin of the bombs which resulted in 70 people being killed and 29 wounded at Damascus is confirmed by two facts, states General de Gaulle's headquarters.
Firstly, an examination of one large portion of one of the bombs showed bronze, which is absent in French bombs. Secondly, the bombs dropped over Damascus weighed 200 kilos and it is learned from airmen who have rallied to the Free French movement that all the Vichy 200 kilo bombs had no detonators and therefore could not have been used.
It is also stated that bombs dropped near the famous Omayad Mosque, which holds Saladin's tomb, destroyed 10 houses and killed 12 people.— 8.0. W.
