In the annual Winter Show Rugby match, Wellington beat Taranaki by 20 points to 6 in a match that brought the large crowci to its feet on no more than a few occasions. Wellington had the advantage of weight, and ' though Taranaki had the greater territorial advantage, the Wellington forwards dominated the majority of set scrums and line-out work, with Cave, Finlay, and Kenny best in the loose and figuring in most scoring movements.
