RECOUNT OF VOTES
MANY BY DECLARATION
The official recount of votes in the city elections is now well ahead, said the Returning Officer. Mr. J. Norrie. today. Probably the final figures in the Mayoral election would be ready by tomorrow, he said, but that would depend upon the examination of the numerous declaration votes cast this year. How many of these votes would be allowed he could not say, but a large proportion would certainly be disallowed, as those making them had made no effort to ensure that their names appeared on the city rolls.
The recount of City Council votes would follow, Mr. Norrie added, and as the declaration votes would be' settled in respect of the Mayoral election there should be little delay.
No date has been fixed for the first meeting of the new council, but presumably it will be called soon after the completion of the recount. As there are seven new councillors the personnel of the committees will be very much changed and this will be the main business of the first meeting. Only one new chairman, for the health committee, over which Mr. C. H. Chapman presided, is likely to be appointed.
