MAORI TROOPS
REPORT FROM MR. FRASER
STILL A SCATTERED BODY

According to advice received by the Acting Prime Minister from Mr. Fraser, a few Maori soldiers who took part in the Greek campaign have been returned to Egypt. Others are in Crete and a number so far have not been accounted for.
Mr. Nash, in a telephone conversation tonight with the Bishop of Aotearoa, the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, said he had received a cable message from Mr. Fraser concerning Mnori troops in the Middle East. The way in which the evacuation had been carried out made it difficult to learn how many of the New Zealanders had fared, said Mr. Fraser. The Maori units had been scattered, and it might be some time before they were .united.
The deaths of two Maori soldiers had so far been reported, said Bishop Bennett, but this could not be taken as an indication that the casualties were light. It was known that the Maoris had seen fierce and heavy fighting in the vicinity, of Olympus and some losses must be expected.
