BACON STOCKS

BRITISH GESTURE

AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE

DISPOSAL OF "8000 TONS

Advice has been received by Mr. W. A. Phillips, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-

operative Pig Marketing Associa-

tion, that arising from Britain's ' recent agreement. to purchase an, increased tonnage of this season's meat, the British Ministry of

Food has agreed to the inclusion

of all New Zealand bacon stocks

on hand as at April 12.

This represents approximately 8000 tons, and with these stocks out of the way this disposes of the difficulty which would have arisen in respect of next season's baconer production had it been necessary to consume existing stocks on the local market.

,This unexpected gesture by the British Ministry of Food will be a welcome relief to producers, whose production outlook for next season has thereby been greatly increased. There is, however, no indication of any change in the situation in respect of next season's production for export of baconer pigs.
