Warnings to mariners concerning Otago and Tauranga harbours have been issued by the Marine Department. In Otago harbour dredging operations will be carried out for the next three months between Harrington Point Bend and Taiaroa Head from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Outside of these hours the dredge will be moored between red beacons Nos. 4 and 5, During darkness, two red lights will be exhibited on the starboard side of the dredger and by day a black ball will be exhibited on the side on which vessels should: pass Mariners should proceed with caution when entering or leaving port as at times the dredge will be using her suction gear. At Tauranga a rifle range has been established about 5.1 miles east or North Kock Light, on the harbour entrance. As danger trom stray bullets exists seaward for 1.25 miles, no vessel should approach the. shore in the vicinity of this, range within this distance when a red flag is displayed on the range.
