STATUS OF ITALIAN TROOPS

LONDON, May 19. Signor Mussolini extended the farce of Croatia's independence a step further today when he issued an order of the day to the commander of the second Italian army in Croatia. The order said that the Italian forces which at present are in the territories of the independent Croatian State ' should not be regarded as an army of occupation but in the role of troops garrisoning territory of a free and allied State. The order did not indicate, when the troops would be withdrawn. King Peter of Yugoslavia presided on Saturday at a meeting of the Yugoslav Cabinet somewhere •in the Middle East. Reuters correspondent says that important decisions were made.
