PERSONAL MOTES
Dr. L. A. Riddell, Lauder, Otago Central, has been appointed medical superintendent of the Wairoa Hospital. He will take up his new duties early in June. -Mr. W. D. M. Clarke, British Trade Commissioner in Bombay, arrived at Auckland on Sunday. He will spend a holiday in the South Island. Mr. E. H. Andrews, new Mayor of Christchurch. served on the council continuously for .twenty-two years. He was born in Nelson in 1873 and is a son of Mr. Thomas Andrews, who came to New Zealand in 1842. He was educated at Canterbury public schools and later at Canterbury College. He took up teaching as a career, and for some eighteen years he taught at primary and secondary schools in Christchurch, Ashburton, Hastings, and Nelson. Later he gave up teaching and founded the printing firm of Andrews, Baty and Co. Mr. Andrews was a member of the Canterbury Education Board for eighteen years, the Christchurch Tram,way Board for six, and the Christj church Fire Board for fifteen. The new Mayoress will be Mr. Andrews's [niece, Miss Evelyn Couzins.
