TROUBLE AT COAL MINES
NEW YORK, May 18
The president of the United Mine Workers. -Mr. John L. Lewis, has instructed 100,000 hard-coal miners to cease work at midnight as a result of the negotiators failing to draft a satisfactory wages and hours contract. Meanwhile the negotiations of 325,000 soft-coal miners are similarly at a deadlock and a stoppage is threatened unless an agreement is reached by May 21.—U.P.A.
