YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
MODERN TRENDS DEPLORED
"Modern Trends in Youth Employment" was the subject of .an address given at Auckland by Mr. Allan Kirk, of Wellington, president of the Vocational Guidance Association, New Zealand, in the course of the session on "The Y.W.C.A. as a Christian Youth Movement."
Mr. Kirk reviewed the economic and industrial situation as it has affected young workers for the last nine years since the crisis of the economic depression and the effect of the war on industry and employment.
The shortage of men resulted in the employment of younger boys and girls, but the substitution of the latter in some cases seemed unnecessary and inadvisable, said the speaker, who also stressed the evil of employing children under the age of 14.
