Lord Liverpool, former GovernorGeneral of New Zealand, is dead.— U.P.A.

Arthur William de Brito Savile Foljambe, Earl of Liverpool, was born in 1870, succeeding his father in 1907. He was educated at Eton and Sandhurst, and held the rank of' major in the Rifle Brigade. In 1898-1900 he was A.D.C. to Lord Cadogan, Lord-Lieu-tenant of Ireland. He served in South Africa in 1901-2 and later became State . Steward and Chamberlain to the Earl of Aberdeen when he was Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland. He was appointed Governor of New Zealand in ?912, and in 1917 his office was raised to the status of Governor-Gene-ral, in which capacity he remained here until 1920. He received the G.C.B. in 1920, the G.B.E. in 1918. the G.C.M.G. in 1904, and was made a Privy Councillor in 1917. He married, in 1897, the Hon. Annette Monck, daughter of the fifth Viscount Monck. The heir to the title is his half-brother, the Hon. Gerald. Savile-Foljambe, who was born in 1878.
