THE QUEEN CARNIVAL

CAMPAIGN

The Hutt Bowling, Croquet, and Tennis Club recently held a combined bridge evening in the club pavilion in support of Princess Nola (Lower Hutt) and Princess Joy (Woburn). The president of the club, Mr. Maurice Upton. received the numerous guests and was assisted by both princesses, who later helped to serve supper. The sum of £18 4s 9d was realised. This was the third event held by the club for carnival funds, the bowlers having held an all-day tournament and the midweek, tennis players a Yankee tournament, when amounts of over £10 were raised on each day.

An indoor sporting function arranged by Mr. V. A. Noble and the men's committee, and held recently in the Labour Hall, Petone, for the Hutt Valley Queen's Campaign, realised over £20

Another entertainment was given recently by Buddy Langman's "Breezy Box Revue" company at St. Anne's Hall, Northland, to augment the campaign funds of Miss Laurie Jones, princess supporting the Movie Queen. Revue members were assisted by Mrs. Jones, who provided costumes, Mrs. Poynton and her juvenile helpers, Mr. B. Henry (pianist), and Mr. J. Wearne (piano-accordion player).

A social was held in the Harbour Board Hall recently in aid of the Harbour Board Princess, Miss Molly MacKenzie. There was a large gathering. A band provided the music for the dancing, and Messrs. G. Borthwick R. McNealy, A. Gulliver, D. MacMillan and E. Campbell played popular airs. Solos were Jung by Mrs. G. Savage. Miss M. MacKenzie and Mr. W. MacKenzie. Margaret Wainwright gave two elocutionary items, and dances were given by Misses K. Mac Donald, Currie, and little Sylvia Graham Piper Angus Graham provided the pipe music. Lieutenant K. Thompson was M.C. Miss Margaret MacMillan was accompanist.

The staff of the Correspondence School arranged a social evening at the Pioneer Club recently in aid of the Public Services Queen. Dr and Mrs. Butchers received the guests. A novel feature was a puppet show arranged by Miss Mollie Davies Pianoforte solos were contributed by Misses Mildred Griffin and Rere Beckway, songs by Miss Mifanwy Davies and Mr. Val Jones, and a tap dance by Miss Pearl McGuinness. An amusing one-act play was presented by Misses Catherine Forde. Patricia yon Keisenber/g, and Joyce Dickson, and Messrs. Harry Scott and Ralph Thomson.

A real "rally round the Flag" social jird dance was recently held at the Masonic Hall, Berhampore, the whole function being arrang d by the IViesdames McLean in aid of the Harbour Board's princess. Mrs Trim, and Miss Goldstein, .iighland duncing was performed by four girls of the Presby terian Orphanage and Miss Sylvie Graham, the pipers being Messrs W Mcßao and A Graham. Mesdamep Trim and McMillan were the accompanists.
