ELECTIONS TOMORROW

POINTS FOR VOTERS

USE OF CROSS SYSTEM

Polling for the election of local bodies will take place tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and electors are advised to record votes as early in the day as possible to avoid a last-minute rush. Voting in all cases will be by the "cross" system; that is, the candidates selected will be indicated by an X and the names of the rejected candidates will not be struck out. Voting papers to be valid must not have more than the required number of candidates mark-

Ed but may have fewer

It is pointed out by the Returning Officer, Mr. J. Norrie, that anybody who is entitled to be on the roll but is not on the roll is not entitled to vote by declaration unless he or she can prove that some attempt to be put on the roll has been made. The fact that a man is on the roll, but not his wife, does not entitle her to vote, and the same applies if the wife is on the roll but not her husband.

The colours of voting papers are pink for the Mayoral election, white for the City Council, green for the Hospital Board, and yellow for the \ Harbour Board. Voting papers inadvertently spoilt are to be endorsed by the deputy returning officer, by whom they are retained and kept with any other spoilt voting papers. Voters are entitled to another voting paper after the spoilt one has been returned to the deputy.
