Woolley, of the Wellington Fire Board, when appealing on behalf of five brigadesmen. The service! conditions were not particularly enticing to married men, he said, and there was no good purpose served in taking on single men who were eligible for military service. In view of the training necessary to produce a firstclass fire fcrigadesman, they would have difficulty in maintaining an efficient and effective staff. In the cases of Jack Woods-Millan Clark, and Herbert William King the appeals were adjourned sine die; and a six months' adjournment was granted in tfcv following appeals:— Laurence Charles Henry Douglas, fireman driver, Morris Proctor and John Mannel Ash, fire brigadesmen. An appeal on behalf of Malcolm Telfer McLean, executive officer, was dismissed, subject to McLean not being called until June 30. An appeal by William Kenyon on behalf of Bert Alfred Farquhar, metal polisher, was dismissed for want of jurisdiction.
