CHANGE TO WINTER

TOMORROW'S RACING

Though there will be five race meetings and one trotting meeting in the Dominion tomorrow, none of them are important fixtures, this phase of the season marking the transition from the flat to the jumping sessions. For Wellington sportsmen the main interest will be in the Waverley and Nelson Meetings. The Waverley Racing Club secured 'he additional permit for the late autumn two years ago, and the new fixture was an immediate success. Better fields than ever have been secured for tomorrow's racing, with many fresh horses in the lists sharpening up for more important engagements not so far ahead. The Waverley course is slightly undulating, and at this time of the season it should be in capital order, though it will be dead or possibly soft. The fences for the jumping items are not difficult. The betting will be under the win-and-place system. The two jumping events and two of the flat events are for open class, and, except in the hurdles, this company is well represented. The feature of the day will be the steeplechase, at the minimum cross-country distance of two miles. In it Clarion Call is to take his place and he will not require to' be at top form to beat those opposed to him. The following horses will be backed: — Westholm Hurdles: Rollicker, Mataroa, Eupatrid. Wairoa Handicap: Royal Star 11, Veldette, Endorsement. Symes Memorial Maiden: Ringless, Courting, Ocean Breeze. \ Kohi Highweight: Tolaga, Wildfire, Arabic. Besley Memorial Handicap: Alexcelia, Notium, Friesland. Waverley Steeples: ■ Clarion Call, Hornpipe, Ruling Star. Ngutuwera Hack Cup: Katesbridge, Le Marquis, Ringcraft.
