BIRTHS UP, DEATHS DOWN
Births registered in Wellington in April were 26 more than in April of last year, and there were 17 fewer deaths. The number of marriage notices and marriages by the Registrar were lower, there being 38 fewer marriage notices and six fewer marriages ii the Registry Office. Following are the figures for April, the returns for April, 1940, being given in parentheses: Births, 251 (225); deaths, 98 (115); marriage notices, 180 (218); marriages by Registrar, 40 (46). In •'a comparison of the figures of the first four months of each' year, the most notable difference is in marriage notices, which numbered 348 more in 1940.
