UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT

Wellington sports lovers are fortunate this year in that the New Zealand University Easter Tournament is being held in Wellington. There was, for a time, doubt whether the tournament should be held this year, but it was decided to go ahead despite the loss of men owing to the call to service. When the colleges got training under way it was found that the teams for all sports promised to be well up to the high standard set in the past. Not only have a large number of representatives who were expected to have been in Territorial work been able to represent their colleges, but the younger members of the teams are showing thai the standard of university sport in New Zealand has not been affected by the war. There will be swimming at Thorndon Baths, tennis at the Miramar courts, rowing on the harbour, basketball at the Mount Cook School, and the two major attractions —athletics at the Basin Reserve on Saturday morning and Monday afternoon, and the boxing championships in the Town Hall on Saturday morning and evening.
